This volume summarizes the lectures by David Woodward, Ph.D., Professor of Geography at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, by Catherine Delano-Smith, a researcher at the Institute of Historical Research and editor of the publication Imago Mundi. The International Journal for the History of Cartography, and Cordell D. K. Yee, Ph.D. in English literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Professor at St. John's College in Annapolis, Maryland, to celebrate the eleventh course on history of cartography dedicated to Approaches and challenges in a worldwide history of cartography.

This book summarizes the conferences of the second course on the history of cartography, part of a series of six seminars to be held annually. It is dedicated to the Mapping of the Iberian Peninsula and its extension to the Americas, and consists of three parts:

• Les cartoteques a la Península Ibèrica. Funció i contingut. Estudi dels centres amb documentació cartogràfica i la seva localització geogràfica, by Montserrat Galera.
• Historia de la cartografía española, by Rodolfo Núñez de las Cuevas.
• Etapas de evoluçao da cartografia portuguesa (séculos XV a XIX), by Maria Fernanda Alegria i Joao Carlos Garcia.

The first year of the cycle was held in January 1990 and was a General introduction to the history of cartography (Barcelona: Institut Cartographic de Catalunya, 1990, 137 pages).
