El presente volumen compendia las conferencias pronunciadas por Wolfgang Scharfe, adscrito a la Freie Universität Berlin como profesor y como miembro del Institut für Geographische Wissenchaften y miembro de diversas comisiones; Ingrid Kretschmer, profesora de cartografía del Departamento de Geografía de la Universidad de Viena, miembro de diversas comisiones y vicepresidenta del Austrian Geographical  Society, y Hans-Uli Feldmann, cartógrafo en jefe de la Federal Office of Topography de Wabern, profesor de cartografía en el Technical College de Berna, redactor en jefe de Cartographica Helvetica. Fachzeitschrift für Kartengeschichte y miembro de la Swiss Society of Cartography, con motivo de la celebración del sexto curso sobre historia de la cartografía dedicado a La cartografía de los países de habla alemana -Alemania, Austria y Suiza-.
